Humility vs. Pride.

Pride is the root of every vice. But it hides. In your son it looks like defensiveness, or the need to be the funniest man in the room. In you it looks different. Impatience when he fails. Needing to be right in arguments. The inability to say "I was wrong" or "I don't know."

This week, men using The Daily Sword&Spade wrestled with how pride presents itself according to different temperaments. The fact is, humility leads to seeing yourself and others accurately.

Don't explain humility this week. Confess something. Tell the men in your life a time you were prideful, and what it cost you. They will remember it.

Say The Three Hardest Words Out Loud.

"I was wrong." To your son. To your wife. To the man at work you snapped at. No softening. No qualifier. No explanation attached. Say the words, then stop talking. Let your son see a father who can admit it when he is prideful.

"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6
